August 9th, 2012, 13:30 – 15:30 WIB

Amartapura C, Grand Royal Panghegar Hotel Bandung

As part of the Indonesian Science and Technology Week (4-10 August), Indonesia will be the host of the international Triple Helix Conference 2012, which will take place from 8 to 10 August and is locally organised by ITB and RISTEK.In close cooperation with the local organisers, READI will support and implement a session on “S&T Cooperation and Innovation Systems in ASEAN” as part of this Triple Helix Conference's programme.

FOCUS

The session will focus on the question how regional and bi-regional S&T cooperation can support national innovation systems involving government, universities and industry, particularly in emerging economies and developing countries within ASEAN. Perspectives from an ASEAN and EU regional level as well as from ASEAN Member States and Triple Helix theory perspectives will be presented and put up for discussion in front of an ASEAN policy-maker audience as well as a wider public of Triple Helix conference participants (from government, academia and industry).

How can regional and bi-regional S&T cooperation support national innovation systems and triple-helix interactions in developing countries?

GOALS

·         clarify how regional and bi-regional S&T cooperation can contribute to innovation systems and triple helix linkages in emerging and developing economies in the region (In how far can S&T cooperation be useful? When would it rather be a burden for economies struggling with the complexity of the triple helix innovation model? How can S&T cooperation involve industry or support the national S&T landscape to integrate industry? Etc.)

·         discuss how S&T cooperation is or can be accommodated in the triple helix model of innovation

·         discuss models of regional S&T cooperation in ASEAN conducive to national innovation potential

·         a better visibility of EU-ASEAN cooperation in research, technology and innovation and its relevance for the innovation capabilities in ASEAN

·         facilitation of regional and bi-regional dialogue on STI matters, through networking among relevant actors,

·         linking the S&T cooperation policy community with the Triple Helix community.
