International Workshop on Agriculture Beyond Food

The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) have set up an Agriculture beyond Food research program focused on Indonesia, in collaboration with the Indonesian Ministry of Science and Technology (RISTEK). The program which was launched in Jakarta, April 2010, aims to enhance and support long-term scientific cooperation between research groups in Indonesia and the Netherlands concerning the innovative use of bio-based resources. There are 3 awarded integrated projects were introduced in that event:

1.       JARAK: the commodization of an alternative biofuel crop in Indonesia (Jatropha);

2.       Breakthroughs in biofuels: mobile technology for biodiesel production from Indonesian resources;

3.       Sliding from greasy land? Migration flows and forest transformation caused by palm oil expansion in Riau, Sumatera and Berau, East Kalimantan.

It is well acknowledge that in order to achieve a sustainable innovation by which deliver benefit for society in socioeconomic aspect, the involvement of Academic, Bussiness, Government and Society in the research activities is highly required. In linkage with the theme of Triple Helix Conference 2012, “Emerging Triple Helix Models for Developing Countries: From Conceptualization to Implementation”, this workshop would like to share the experience of three AbF Projects on conducting research collaboration with interdisciplinary approach.

Based on the above issues, the Ministry of Research and Technology in cooperation with the Royal Netherlands Academy of Art and Sciences (KNAW) and supported by SEA-EU-NET Project will organize international workshop on Agriculture beyond Food. The workshop is part of a Satellite Event in Triple Helix Conference 2012.



The objectives of the international workshop are as follows:

1.       To share experiences of three AbF Projects on conducting research collaboration with interdisciplinary approach;

2.       To identify critical points in the implementation of the triple helix collaboration;

3.       To obtain recommendation for the next step of the AbF Project in particular, as well as general research consortia.
